2013 Vasques de Carvalho Vintage Port

Post by Mike K. »

Obtained at the lodge in 2018
Decanted 11 hours
Nose - Blackberry, plum, blueberry, honey, light alcohol. Light tannins.
Taste - Soft, round, and coating - nice mouth feel. Juicy blackberry and blueberry. Tannins are quite soft and come in late.
Finish - Sweet, with dark fruit flavors. The tannins continue to build over time. Good length.
A very pleasant and easy drinking port. Satisfying but not overly complex. Not sure it has the back-bone for long aging.
89 points.

Day 2 update- At 12 hours I poured it back into its bottle and topped with wine preserve spray. It’s the next day now, poured a glass. It’s become quite rough around the edges, with a burn. No longer a fan. Definitely finish this the first evening.

Did you happen to try this on day 3? Young VP can really do weird things the first couple of days and I often find day three is where you know if it's gonna stay weird and not so good or if it pulls itself togther.

I did try the bottle again today on day 3. Definitely better than yesterday, but not quite as good as day 1.

Very interesting.
