1960 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Spirited and herbal in the aroma. The flavor is growing on me with some fruit showing up. However, compared to the previous times I've opened one of these (I think this is the fourth or fifth one), this showing was a relative disappointment. Earlier tastings scored 93, 91, and 92+ points. This one? I didn't record a score at the time, but my recollection puts it at 89 points.

The herbal descriptor is not a good sign in such a VP. Bummer.

I had one that sat in the same So. CA cellar since the 1970’s. He had brought it in DI. This was last month. The bottle was impeccable and much better than past 2 bottles in the recent past. Exactly as had been mentioned, spirity be and minty. But the most recent one was medium ruby and gave all one could expect of a 58 year old V.P.!
