2013 Dow's Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

Quinta do Bomfim visitor center

Bottle was open when served to us. Believe no decanting. Medium dark purple colour.
Fresh aroma of young fruit. Medium body. Taste is showing extreme fruit, a lot of tannins, quite dry.
Well balanced. Structure seems good, although the “raw” fruit makes it difficult to judge.
30 minutes later it was more rounder. Less raw, giving 89 pts.

Hello Rune, greetings from Boston! I was preparing to buy some of this wine when I found it at a very good price (less than $50 USD. But then, after reading many other reviews, I logged into FTLOP and there was this not-so-priaseworthy review! I wonder if you have tried it again and what the result was. Brad

Hi Sam! I have not tasted the 2013 since then.
But later that year (November 2016) I participated in a Winemakers Dinner in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the entire dinner was accompanied by port wines. For the main course (meat) they served the 2012-version. The 2012 was similar to 2013, but probably a little bit softer. When having the food together with 2012, it softened and became nice and I gave it 89 pts.

The 2015 is on sale near me for $24.99. I may have to give it a try at that price. I bought the 2006 for the same price about four or five years ago from a different local store.

Eric, that's an extraordinarily low price for a single quinta. Perhaps it's a .375?

Rune, "Sam" is Brad who you met on one of Roy's trips. [cheers.gif]
