How to tell the RWC New Orleans releases apart?

Post by Mike K. »

Given a bottle of Rare Wine Co. Historic Series New Orleans Special Reserve, how can you tell which of the (3?) releases it is? I had read somewhere that the back labels are different. Does any one have images of all the back labels as a guide?

Thx!!

The first two editions are called "New Orleans Special Reserve" and AFAIK the only difference is a little code at the bottom of the label - it is L6296 for the first one and L9326 for the second; I believe the labels are identical otherwise. The new one is called "New Orleans Tricentennial Reserve."

Only thing I'd add is, the very first bottling was a foil top dipped in wax.

This is the original release who's proceeds went to New Orleans relief and contained the old Terrantez.

These are a comparison of the original release and second release front and back labels. The second did not contain the Terrantez even though it mentions it on the back label.

How does one upload photos which aren't huge? [foilhat.gif]

Scale them first on your computer. My primary tool for such things on Windows is IrfanView, but there are plenty of others, including apps for your phone. Of course you could also lower the resolution in the phone camera settings too before taking the picture. There are tradeoffs both ways for that approach vs. scaling afterwards.

I had the 3rd release this past spring during the Fortification tour. It stacked up well against the other wines poured. I’ve never had the first two, so can’t compare.
