Your TOP Madeira consumed in 2018

Post by Roy Hersh »

A tradition here on FTLOP, please add your favorite Madeira(s) consumed this year. If you have an even better bottle during the Christmas and New Years holidays, please do come back and let us know. In the past, some of you have chosen to list your top 10, others break down by categories of their fave Madeira ... it is all good. [cheers.gif]

So many great wines, but two that stood out were:

D'Oliveiras Verdelho 1890
Barbeito Malvasia 1875

Mike,

I am surprised you prefer the 1875 Malvazia by Barbeito to the one by D'Oliveiras!?!?

Roy, I don’t believe D’Oliveiras poured their 1875 for us that day in the formal tasting. We were talking about asking for a pour once we got to their gift shop, but forgot about it.

I do remember you thought highly of it. Let’s make sure it’s on the ‘menu’ if we go back this spring!!

Absolutely, it is the best bottle of OLD Malvasia still available for sale on the island. I believe that to be an accurate statement. It is phenomenal and off the top of my head, typically a 98 point experience, some have rated it even higher.

Hi Roy, actually, and I dont know if it is still the case, but, HH still had their Malvasia Reservas for sale in their tasting room last time I was there. High price though!
