This section is for those who have basics questions about, or are new to, Port. There are no "dumb" questions here - just those wanting to learn more!

Wood you like to know?

Post by Roy Hersh »

Did you know?

If you add up all quantities of Pipas (Port pipes with the equivalent of 550 liters, although "lodge pipes" are even larger), and add up all toneis and balseiros, the Symington Family Estates maintains over 46,000 wooden vessels filled with Port wine. Unfortunately I do not know the total volume of Port in their possession, however, that number of "casks" keeps a staff of seven coopers working full-time on their staff. According to Richard Mayson this is the largest quantity of filled neutral wood vessels held by any Port company.
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
