Some years ago FTLOP asked several Port Wine personalities what they think should be changed in the Port Wine regulation.
Jorge Serodio Borges and João Nicolau de Almeida wanted the entry barrier for Port Wine producers to be lowered, as it was hindering young, small companies to get into the market.
Well, they will be happy now as it was just announced that the necessary stock to become a Port Wine producer has been cut in half to 75,000 liters.
It's still a sizable investment to get to 75,000 liters - but it is easier to achieve than the 150,000 liters before.
Let's hope that this will bring a few new producers into the market.

Strange this was just announced now. I was told that it was already put in place last summer when I was there in June. I think it had already been proposed by the IVDP President and he was just waiting for the official ruling to go through, but everyone was talking about it at that time.
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
