Bottled in 1978, number 593 of 2266. Decanted 24 hours in advance of serving.

Beginning of the evening notes: The color is a walnut brown with a very small greenish ring on the rim. The nose is strong acetone with some nuts. The palate shows wood, moderate sugar that is completely masked by the heavy acidity. Flavors of nuts and burnt caramel.

Three hours later: No color change. No change on the nose. On the palate, the sugar is starting to emerge, blended in nicely with the acidity that's still going strong. But over the course of the next 30 minutes, the sugar started to retreat, with the acid and acetone winning the race.

The wine is best served with strong cheeses. It went really well with blue cheese and strong soft, running cheeses. (90 pts.)
