So now that we have narrowed it down to TWO finalists ... the 1980 vs. 1987 vintages ... we can explore these two vintages in greater depth. Instead of narrowing it down further by doing another poll, which would be boring IMO, let's explore your pick with some back up information as to why and which you'd chose to be the winner between these two.
Please DO limit your discussions here to these 2 specific vintages so that we may all remain focused. Thanks!
Since Fred has organised for 1980 to be the theme for the March virtual tasting, perhaps we should use 1987 as the theme for April and then we can have some experience to base our thoughts on?
Though I voted for the 1980 — finding it to be 3¾-star port at 3-star prices — I have never tried a 1987. Hopefully those familiar with both will post learned comment.
I am confused. How do you assess 3 3/4 stars if you have never tried ANY Port from this vintage? If you are basing this on what you've read, then it really would not be your opinion, would it?
I just ordered some bottles of 1980 Warre. I'll open one over the weekend and report back. How do I participate in the virtual tasting that Alex noted?

John,
Just go to the "Virtual tasting" forum and you will see march's thread. BTW, glad you are going to join us in a "VT"

I agree, my consumption of 1987's is very limited (off the top of my head, i can't recall any). Would make a great April Virtual tasting..Now I gotta start tracking some down
