NV Brunheda 100+ years old colheita port

Post by Rune EG »

This was the last bottle of three purchased at Brunheda September 2016. Consumed as part of our 40th wedding anniversary 11th August 2019.

Probably a 1906 colheita (113 years old!). Bottled as cask sample straight from the barrel September 2016. Decanted 1 hr. Medium to dark brown colour. Aroma was unfortunately dominated by alcohol, and it did not fade away during decanting or consumption time. This was the reason why it was scored 98 pts and not 100 pts like the first bottle. Full body. Taste was big, powerful, elegant, citrus, some undefined spices, herbs, oak, minerals and a touch of molasses. The structure of this port is fantastic. So is also the the acidity/sweetness-balance. It is not sweet, and has a good ”grip”. Long, complex, wonderful aftertaste. From decanting time to finishing the bottle, it took 2 hrs 40 minutes, and the quality of the port was stable in that period. 98 pts.
