NV Ferreira Porto Duque de Bragança 20 Year Old Tawny

Post by Stewart T. »

  • NV Ferreira Porto Duque de Bragança 20 Year Old Tawny - Portugal, Douro, Porto (9/19/2016)
Amber in color with orange on the edges. Orange spice notes with some classic nuts and elegance. Well-balanced acidity on the long finish. (93 pts.)
Sandeman Lodge - Vila Nova de Gaia
We then moved to the lodge of Sogrape's other major Port brand, Sandeman. Here, we were joined by our old friend George Sandeman for a tour of the museum (which houses some of the vintage Sandeman advertising posters from the, including the iconic "The Don" by George Massiot). We tasting through the 10-40 Year Old Tawnies, toured and barell-sampled in the cellar, and then each got to try our hand at blending Ports from three different vintage to match the wine created by Sogrape’s Chief WinemakerLuis Sottomayor (who oversaw our efforts and judged us on our success (or lack thereof).

We then headed to lunch with George at one of our regular haunts on the riverfront: Adega e Presuntaria Transmontana II.
