1938 Niepoort on Winebid

Post by Andrew Kirschner »

Ok, I feel like I should know the answer to this question, so please bear with me here.

There’s a listing on Winebid for a 1938 Niepoort. Here’s the link:

https://www.winebid.com/BuyWine/Item/74 ... feira-Port

It’s a 1938 that was bottled in 1941- that part makes sense. But the listing says it has a capsule condition issue (suggesting there IS a capsule) and that it was decanted in 1977.

I would be grateful for some explanation of what is meant here.

I apologize if this comes across as a newbie question.

Best,

Andrew

It’s a Garrafeira Port. So 1938 is vintage, next date is when it went into a large ~13 liter glass Demi-John and last date was when it was bottled into the current bottle. Niepoort is the only one who still commercially makes them.

That bottle has been there for some time. Price and bottle condition, I would assume, is why no ones bought it.

Thank you so much. There was definitely something I was missing there.
