Just purchased a case of '17@55EUR with option on going deeper or adding '16 at same price tag.
Any comparison on those back-to-back years? TNs?
Thanks
Andy

Re: Noval VP 2016 vs. 2017
I had the chance to try these two vintages side by side (and also the 2015 and 2018) a couple of weeks ago. All four were fabulous Ports but the 2017 was a class above the other three. It really is a stunning Vintage Port.

I don't believe that I've had any of them side-by-side, but I have also tasted all 4 and agree with Alex. The 2017 is in a class by itself out of that group. 55 EUR/bottle is an outstanding price, congrats!

And here I was going to buy some 2018. So maybe 2017 instead?

Re: Noval VP 2016 vs. 2017
So far, speaking of the vintage in general and with limited experience and very limited age in bottle, 2017 doesn't seem to me to be the equal of 2011 or 1970. But it might be the equal of 1994. Just given those comparisons, though, it's in great company.Eric Menchen wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:27 pm And here I was going to buy some 2018. So maybe 2017 instead?
With even less experience and even less bottle age, 2018 just seems like a solid, quality vintage.

Re: Noval VP 2016 vs. 2017
2011 was the last vintage I bought in quantity. I bought a few bottles of 2016, and a little bit of 2015. I was thinking of getting a couple of sixers of 2018, but now I'm considering the 2017 Noval instead.Glenn E. wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 2:55 pm So far, speaking of the vintage in general and with limited experience and very limited age in bottle, 2017 doesn't seem to me to be the equal of 2011 or 1970. The only down side, for me at least is that the Noval usually take so long to really hit their prime. I'm almost 63, I could be dead before the '17 really starts to sing. But I'll buy some anyways. I'll try a few over the years and the rest my kids can sell at auction in 2044, lol.

Who cares?! I am 78 and purchased a few bottles of the Noval VP '18 as well (after 2015, 2016 and 2017, admittedly: small amounts) There is always time to enjoy themMike J.
