1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port

Post by David Spriggs »

Medium ruby color. Smells like a classic Vintage Port - blackberry, leather, old wood, some orange peel. A very lifted nose. Very smooth entry. Tasting - Big fruit entry, than it fills my whole mouth. It suddenly lightens up and here comes the tannins and acid. Very long finish. Delicious! This is the first 1977 Smith Woodhouse that I've had that was ready to drink. I thought that that it would take more than my lifetime. The cork did come out in pieces... but not unusual for an old Port (43 years old!). There was no leakage around the cork. A wonderful old wine! A bit light in the finish, but I do like that there is no substantial heat. 94 points.

This is a great Port.

Such great structure, and usually such good value. Glad it showed well!
