1977 Gould Campbell vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

Back in 2013-2014 I purchased 9 magnums of the GC 77. Of these 9 magnums 8 of them have been fantastic, while one was not to be consumed. I think that 8 of 9 is a very good ratio for a vintage port of that age. Except one, they were consumed during period 2013-2016. The last magnum was consumed on New Years Eve 2020.

Magnum bottle. Decanted 2 hrs which worked well. Previous bottles had more like 6 - 9 hrs, but this port is in a stage of having been on the top. In my opinion it will not survive 6 - 9 hrs decanting without being deteriorated. Bottle was in excellent condition. No leakage, cork was easy to pull out. The aroma showed a nice combination of fruit/minerals/wood. The fruit aroma was on the mature side. Full body. The taste was powerful, fruity, well balanced tannins and nice prunes. The good structure was still there, and the balance acidity/sweetness was as it should be. An excellent 43 years old vintage port. Medium to long aftertaste. 94 pts.
