Krohn colheita 1996
I am far from being a port connoisseur but while i enjoy drinking port I don't have the experience to know when I taste a wine that I don't enjoy why that is or if there is a problem with that particular bottle. The case in point being a bottle of Krohn Colheita 1996 (bottled in 2019) I just bought from a n online merchant. Its the first colheita I have drunk, bought as a treat to myself in lockdown. Recently I have had a Grahams 30 year old tawny and a 10 year old. I've not drunk tawny port before but I really enjoyed these and was curious to drink more as they are easier to handle than vintage ports and a lot cheaper! I expected the Krohn to be as enjoyable if not more so than these. But its a real let down. The label says it might 'throw a slight sediment' but even after being stood for 24 hours after opening the colour looks very slightly opaque. It tastes thin and a bit sharp although not entirely unpleasant but it has a musty aftertaste. I know its very subjective but I am curious for some opinions especially if anyone has drunk this same port. Could it be that there is something wrong with this bottle or if that were the case would it be absolutely obvious, like vinegar?

What caught my attention is you said the finish was musty. Does it smell or taste like wet cardboard? TCA (also called "cork taint") typically has varying levels of musty wet cardboard smell or taste. It robs the wine of flavor and can make it sharp as well.
And congrats on your first post after being with us for so long!
