How many bottles in your cellar

Post by Andreas Platt »

...of Madeira, surely enough.

Since this question seems to be too indiscrete, let's ask in a different way: 1-20,21-50, 51-100 or 101+

Here: 101+

Bastardo 1%
Bual 30%
Malvazia 30%
Moscatel 1%
Sercial 5%
Terrantez 10%
Verdelho 15%
Blend/Cuvee 5%
Tinta 1%

the rest is rounding delta.

Average Vintage 1892 from all Frasqueiras.

6xMagnums, 2x500ml, 25x1l, Rest 700 res. 750ml bottles.

Only 1% Tinta?
I'm well over 101+.
Not sure of the percentage breakdown. I'll have to figure it out.

I only have a little over 2 cases of Madeira, most of it Malvasia, divided roughly 40/60 between really fancy really old stuff and younger 20-50 year old blends and frasqueiras.

My fancy old stuff has an average age of 1895, but that's distorted by the 1950 Faja dos Padres Terrantez and the 1964 MBV Malvasia (both of which I count as "fancy" even though they aren't all that "old"). On the other end is the ubiquitous 1834 Barbeito Malvasia.

My "young" stuff includes 6? 7? 50 year old blends so really isn't all that young. It's just young for Madeira.

IIRC I have 5 total non-Malvasias: the above-mentioned 1950 Faja Dos Padres, a 1908 D'Oliveras Boal, a Barbeito 50 Year Old Bastardo Avo Mario, a 1971 D'Oliveiras Terrantez, and a RWC Library Company Madeira.
