1985 Smith Woodhouse vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

The 1985 Smith Woodhouse vintage port has for abt. 10-12 years been my vintage port in reserve if/when I want to serve another vintage port to guests, and it appear that the latter failed. Then the 1985 SW can be opened with just a few hours decanting time. It has never disappointed me. This tasting note is from my second-to-last bottle of the 1985 SW VP.

Purchased from the Norwegian Wine Monopoly December 2012. Decanted 3 hrs. Plenty of sediments. Deep red colour with a touch of brown. Wonderful deep aroma of sweet fruit with touch of wood and anis. Full body. Powerful, rich and comprehensive. Includes sweetish fruit, some wood and minerals. Well-structured and well-balanced. Some dryness towards the end. Long aftertaste. 93 pts.

Thanks Rune. I also thing that this is a very reliable Vintage Port. I have quite a few, so I will "dig into them" more often. Thanks for the tasting note!
