2 nights in Porto this July

Post by John F. Newman »

First time ooop north. (My wife’s family are from the Algarve so we rarely venture above Fatima). I will be in PT from July 1-25 this summer.

Looking for recommendations for a 2 day stay (could be expanded to 3 or conceivably even 4 days)

3 people: me, wife and 17 year old daughter (so it can’t be all port-centric)
Budget: vintage taste, but LBV wallet.
Preferences: authenticity over sleek and expensive
Touristy is okay... I’ll be a tourist.

Where to stay
Where to go
Any preferred time in July (festivals or just better days of the week)
And any other recommendations (other than a francesinha).

Ps we plan on traveling by train if that affects any recommendations

Obrigado!

Look for a house to rent on www.booking.com. I use them from time to time in the Porto/Gaia area and have very good luck so far.

To bad you won't be there the end of June. Sao Joao festival is June 24 and It's quite the experience that's for sure.

I know the Confraria boat race is taking place at 14.00 on Thursday 24 June this year - and I believe is live on YouTube.

But does anyone know if the street party and fireworks are taking place the afternoon and evening of June 23rd?

Last week it was said that the street festivities would not happen. This Friday someone told me some events would take place... I'll try to know more today and come back.

I was told Fireworks and street party would not happen. Following the Euro game in Lisbon, things are not looking that good anymore for Portugal :(
