SAMMAMISH VINTAGE PORT TASTING - Sammamish, Washington (2/27/2021)
  • 1990 Dow Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Decanted 6 hours. Light maroon with some pink hues at the edges. Light cinnamon, chocolate, fig, and some herbal notes on the nose. Medium body with a touch of cinnamon and some cherry on the palate. Milk chocolate and mild tannins on the medium-long finish. (92 pts.)
  • 1983 Gould Campbell Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Decanted 7.5 hours. Very dark, nearly opaque purple in color. Cocoa powder with a touch of menthol or wintergreen on the nose. Medium-bodied with great mouthfeel with balanced tannins on the palate. Black fruit, raspberry, and some black cherry on the palate. The touch of TCA right on the end of the swallow was only mildly distracting. (91 pts.)
  • 1995 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Dark, mostly opaque in color. Chocolate notes with dark fruit on the nose. Intense, rich mouthfeel with chocolate and juicy black plum. Nice, balanced tannins on the long finish. (94 pts.)
  • Barbeito 50 Years Old O Japonês Malvasia Madeira
Amber-gold in color with a touch of faint green on the rim. There are notes of saline, dried apricots, honey, and light herbs on the nose. The initial entry is smooth, but the crisp acidity takes over on the mid-palate. The finish is very long with a decent balance on the finish between the sweetness and acidity. (93 pts.)
