Ferreira Dona Antônia 10 Year Old White Porto

Post by Eric Menchen »

Initial aromas of cinnamon, honeysuckle, lemon, caramel, light leather and some pleasant grass/weed aroma. Body is lighter than I expected, but plenty strong, medium bodied overall. Similar flavors to the aromas, with more honey and some fenugreek. Initially seemed to have plenty of acid, and there is still enough later, but it has faded. More alcohol aroma on the second pour, and a little bit of pecan along with the lemon. More sugar flavors later too, with brown sugar, caramel, and a little fruitiness, apricot. Eric Ifune says tropical fruits like papaya, and I do get a little pineapple, and more of that non-tropical apricot. Aroma even later shows butter and fat. 92 points.

Glenn, Eric Ifune says this is your new dinner wine.

I do very much enjoy 10YO white Port, I think in part because the younger white Ports typically still exhibit more tropical notes than the older ones. And they do make very good food wines!
