2016 Kopke Douro Vinhas Velhas - Portugal, Douro (10/3/2021)
Tasted at the Kopke tasting room in Vila Nova da Gaia. From an open bottle that had one glass taken out. Dark ruby color. Looks quite young. Nice nose off black cherry and chocolate. There is some wood showing, but it’s well integrated. Big, but balanced on the palate. The flavors echo the nose and some lemon shows up in the long finish. The mid-palate is much smoother than many big boy 2016 Douro wines. I would give this 3-5 years in the cellar, but it could be drunk now with a good decant and a steak. Excellent! 93 points.
