You found 750ml bottles of 2017 Fonseca for $33 each? Or were they 375ml?

Yea they are 750ml. I got 6 2016 750ml Croft VP for $30 each too. This was two weeks ago. Both with owc.

I wonder if a distributor had a bunch to get rid of?

This was from a very reputable local wine shop too.

That's a great deal and an incredibly deep price cut. Either they mistakenly marked them using 375ml pricing or else they needed to clear inventory quickly due to a cash flow squeeze. Congrats to you!

I will tell you the full story.

Longstanding local wine store, pretty decent size. I'm not a big customer of theirs (I historically don't buy a lot of wine) but have been on their mailing list for ~8 years or so.

One of their weekly emails hits my inbox - 2017 Croft VP (750ml) for $30. I buy 6 immediately. A few hours later, I get an email my order is ready.
Great!

An hour or so later, I get another email that says something to the effect of the website was oversold and the supplier is out. He can, however, fill the order with 12x 375ml bottles. So basically same price per ml, just a different format. I was a little irked because I'm like you sent me an email that says my order was ready for pickup....doesn't that mean that your guys set 6 bottles aside for me?

Anyway, after a few back-and-forths they respond "We have 6 of the 2016 vintage Croft VP in 750's, we can replace your order with that. Or, we have 2017 Fonseca VP in 750's but that will be $35 each instead of $30".

I respond, "How bout I take the 2016 Croft and you sell me 6 of the 2017 Fonseca for $33ea?"

"Deal".

You hit paydirt on that one.
