2013 Quevedo Colheita Burgundy Barrel
2013 Colheita Burgundy Barrel (bottled 2022)
Day 1 of the 2022 Quevedo Prestige Advent Calendar
Color: dark garnet, opaque center. The color looks like an LBV that is just starting to show some moderate age, not a Colheita.
Nose: fruity and grapey. Does not smell like a Colheita, even a young one. It smells like a ruby. Possibly some very faint, old Cab Sauv green pepper-like note, or maybe just a very faint sour note. More presence than the Cask version. Maybe some vanilla cream cheese icing? Also some milk chocolate… powder?
Palate: smooth and delicious. Very well balanced, including good tannins and some warmth. Slurpy and potent at the same time. Blackberry, cassis, mulberry, maybe some sweet blueberry. Not at all tawny-like - I'd guess 2013 LBV that was in wood 6 years. Excellent integration - though somewhat strange, it is a superb Port that I'd buy exactly as it is. The few tawny notes that are there really give it a richer, smoother body than most LBVs.
Score: 94 points. I put this on par with the best LBVs that I've had, and easily above most 10 Year Old Tawny Ports or Colheitas in the same age range. Ironically it presents as less confused than your typical 10 year old Tawny Port, which I often complain can't decide whether they are ruby Ports or tawny Ports, but that's because this Port is firmly in the ruby camp. It is definitely odd that it is labeled a Colheita yet looks, smells, and tastes so much like an LBV, but it is a delicious LBV.

Glenn, I think the idea here is more educationnal so we can compare the evolution of this wine in 2 different barrels. Indeed this is still looking very young and this is why the most recent release from Quevedo Colheita is the 2007. I'm a big fan of the 2014 ''Colheita'' from Balseiro #4 that also tastes like an amazing LBV at this moment. Can't wait to see how these wines will develop in 20 years.

I've also been informed that I should have been scanning the QR codes on the bottles because those lead to explanatory videos!
I generally avoid QR codes for security reasons unless I know what they are ahead of time, so I'd skipped right over these without a second thought.

These should be secure :) I use to record the videos with Oscar on the previous 2 calendars but this year I did not have time, I have no clue what they are about but I'm sure you'll find some nice information!Glenn E. wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 10:59 am I've also been informed that I should have been scanning the QR codes on the bottles because those lead to explanatory videos!

Do you need to scan the QR codes, or is there a website?

You need to scan them from the bottle of the advent calendar.

I know the 2013 isn't released yet, but does Quevedo have a U.S. importer? I've never seen them online or in a B&M store in the U.S.

Grisley in Utah (at least they used to be, not sure if they still are) if so, they don’t do a good job distributing his products. He needs to find a good distributor here.Mike J. Farah Trading in Cali had Quevdo things for a short bit but their prices are eye-watering high. Tedo 20 yr tawny is something like $120/bottle, to give you an idea of her pricing. Even her “sales” aren’t worth buying.
