1994 Quevedo Colheita Tonel (bottled 2022)
Day 9 of the 2022 Quevedo Prestige Advent Calendar
Color: med dark burgundy, not quite opaque center.
Nose: ripe red fruits, a tangy note, some tart bing cherries, faint lime, and very faint turpentine. The lime and turpentine has a metallic overtone. The nose seems cleaner than the Cask version's.
Palate: rich, round, and fairly powerful. Big in the mouth. Secondary red fruits over a base of very ripe, sweet raspberry. Some caramelized red fruits also. It's almost slurpy but not quite - it's too powerful for that label. Like the day 8 Port, this seems like a 17-18 year old Colheita, not one that is 28 years old. It is lovely, but where is the caramel? The vanilla? The dried fruits? That said, it seems to be developing nicely it just isn't on a normal Colheita path.
Score: 93 points. I would score it lower as a Colheita because it doesn't show correctly as a 28 year old, but it does taste like (young) Tawny Port and is quite yummy. It would be very interesting to be able to continue sampling this every 5-10 years as it ages, because it is very much "behind the curve" for what one would consider a "normal" tawny aging path.
