1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by LOUISSS J »

The bottle was opened and decanted for 5 hours. In my opinion the bottles were at their best after 3 or 4 hours.
The bottle was going to be almost full for me so I started drinking it immediately. Also it was slightly too cold (about 13 degrees) and slowly warming up probably helped in the same time.
the Port was still in very good shape. A nice balanced acidity with a nice sweetness. A fairly silky and moderately greasy texture. A mix between power and softness. A bit of red fruit with caramel/maple butter, chocolate, earthy? and a little peppery spice. After 3 or 4 hours the nose became really detailed and lovely. On the other hand, in the mouth everything remained more or less apparent.
In my opinion it can still be very pleasant at this level for quite a while.
The bottle was opened with port tongs. Nevertheless, seeing the bottom of the cork, I saw that it still looked very nice.

I don't think I got a perfect bottle. Despite everything, no disappointment... a very beautiful moment of the holiday season.
The Fonseca 1970 remains my best experience. I only had an F77 but I have a 1970 left which I plan to drink next year.
