2003 Quevedo Colheita Port Cask

Post by Andy Velebil »

From the Advent Calendar. Color is the similar as the "Burgundy Barrel" version, but this is a touch darker. The nose has some prominent oak but doesn't come off as sweet as the Burgundy Barrel version. The palate is far more dense dark berry fruit and dusty tannins with a smattering of vanilla oak. The higher perceived acidity comes off as astringent, which is a positive as it does nicely balance that rich tannic fruit. On its own, this is still not ready for release as a Colheita but has wonderful future promise. Even though this shows younger and more harsh, I liked the balance and complexity of this better than the Burgundy Barrel version.
Not rated being effectively a cask sample.
