1964 Niepoort Garrafeira

Post by Eric Menchen »

(Bottled in 1971, decanted in 1978.) Appears fairly cloudy with a red-brown color. Smells of furniture polish, creosote, tar, and smoke. Lots of alcohol warmth in the mouth, with a slightly better flavor than the smell, but that’s not saying much. Tastes like a smoked lemondrop candy soaked in chlorophenols. Not rated.

It does indeed looks like a bad bottle. Can you share a photo? Normally the 1964 has XXXs on the decanting date. Just to confirm you did not have a fake. Like on this photo, this is what I normally expect from the 1964 https://www.custojusto.pt/lisboa/despor ... 4-36861112

This was from a tasting last November 20th, and I don't have a picture of that. This was a FTLOP gathering in Seattle, so it is possible that someone else has a photo. I don't have reason to doubt the authenticity of the bottle.
