The difference between Quinta Do Noval and the Nacional?

It would still be worth asking the question, even if the answer is that he is not able to tell us the answer.

If that was the reply then I guess one day I'll have to learn Portuguese and then spend a few months trawling through the newspaper archives in Oporto and Regua, reading copies of the Regua Daily to see what they were saying in the mid 1920's.

Unless there's someone studying at the University of Oporto who we could persuade to do their thesis on the replanting of the Nacional vineyard...

In all seriousness, perhaps it's as simple as the drainage? There seems to be lots of ungrafted vines in the Mosel, check out Dr. Loosen for one. I believe they attribute it to the drainage.
