1838 WR Travers "Antelope"

Classic 3 part molded bottle. WR Travers was a 19th century shipper. "Antelope" the name of the ship bringing the wine in.
A classic American glass aged Madeira. Unfortunately a style extinct after Prohibition.
The cork was removed in one piece. Looked period, almost conical in shape due to age. It disintegrated moments after removal.
Bright clear amber shot with gold and green.
Aromas of smoke, limes, lemons, praline. Surprisingly only a small bit of bottle stink which quickly blew off.
On the palate, dense, very rich, velvety. Flavors of lemon and toffee. Very dry but most likely Verdelho. Very elegant, ethereal even. Very, very complex.
A long, rich, slightly astringent finish. 93 points.
