2014 Niepoort Bioma Vinha Velhas Crusted bottled December 2014

Post by Rune EG »

FTLOP-definition: “Crusted Ports are blends of at least two or more vintage years that age in wood for up to four years, bottled, and then ideally aged at least another three years in bottle before release. Crusted Ports are left unfiltered.”

According to the Niepoort web site they produced this version abt 10 000 liters = abt. 13 000 bottles. Niepoort is stating that this 2014-bottling were filled with wines from 2012 and 2013. Decanted 2.5 hrs which was OK. At decanting it appeared more sediments than most vintage ports. Deep red colour. Powerful aroma of flowers, confectionery and cherries. Smooth impression, even though there is a strong texture. Dry towards the end. We liked it a lot and gave it 93 pts.
