Two 2020 wines from Soalheiro. The Alvarinho was very good, the Granit excellent (for white wines).

2017 Cartuxa Reserva Tinto - Extremely dark appearance! Glowing ruby/magenta rim. Full bodied! Mouth filling and it's all about the fruit. Then the very fine tannins and acid come it to give it balance. Finishes long and dry. Perfect acidity. Wonderful!

Next day it seems more monolithic and closed. Deserves some time in the cellar, but can popped and poured too. 94+ points.

2015 Vallado Reserva. Young but open. Decided this instead of traditional Zinfandel for Thanksgiving dinner for parents as we made Peas Portuguesa w/chourico and Portuguese style turkey scallopini with roasted tomato & fennel sauce a la Todd English. The pairing worked well.

1/2 bottle of 2006 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva. Well past its best days but still enjoyable given its age. If you own some still, I’d recommend drinking sooner than later.

Not a PT wine but I bought an Italian 2008 La Stoppa Vigna del Volta Malvasia Passito at auction, to fill a case and try.

And it is really good. It has that right elevated sweetness level cut with acidity - the low alcohol and low tannins makes it a real smooth apple nectar.

Niepoort Vertente 2018 2018 has always missed a touch of acidity for me, notheless, it is drinking smoothly, still full of fruits and touch of spices. Always a great QPR wine from the Douro in in this fresh style.

2016 Quinta do Vale Meão Douro Meandro
2016 Quinta do Vale Meão Douro
Tasted these side-by-side, blind. I knew what they were, but not which was which. Others had no idea other than Portuguese. The first is a ~$20 wine, the second a ~$120. I actually preferred the Meandro, while the other three people preferred the Quinta do Vale Meão. But we all agreed both were excellent and very close in flavor and quality.

Oh, and finished this off tonight. Really was nice for such an aged wine.

NIepoort Charme 2021: 2021 was a great year for table wines in the Douro. This one comes with low saturation ruby/garnet color. The nose is complex and intense. Notes of red fruits, truffle and spices. On the palate the same aromatic intensity is present, the finish is extremely long too. But, it definitively lacks structure and depth. Low acidity and low tannins makes the wine hollow from the entry to mid palate. Difficult to assess a score with such a beautiful aromatic explosion, I'd go around 92-93, definitively not the 98 from the recent RP rating.

Niepoort Batuta 2018 - rock star nose and easy drinking. Went well with the linquica & pão de queijo!
