My friend and former FTLOP poster, Peter W. Meek, who I used to meet up with in his "Gang of Pour" in Ann Arbor, Michigan during Christmas' past, has passed away. He was in his early eighties. He was a huge fan of Tawny Port in particular, but the occasional VP too. I was sad to learn this news from his daughter. Peter and Eva and the gang in MI, used to meet up for our annual drink fest at a top Italian restaurant that he introduced me to. Several of his compadres used to come and lurk here, one or two posted and one came on a tour with us to Madeira. Anyway, he will be missed, RIP Peter!

Sad---he was such a presence here back a few years ago.....remember he had a certain Tawny he loved and his restaurant always had a bottle opened for he and his friends---or anyone who asked. Always thought that was tres' cool.

Yes, near Ann Arbor, MI, his home looked like a castle and had more unique features than I had ever seen in a private home. He had his own private shooting range that was mechanized and sophisticated. He had separate wings underground for his electrical shop and his wood shop. Both were extraordinary, huge and the elaborate equipment most have cost a fortune. The Great Hall was mind-blowing for a private home, no less one just outside of a city in America.

We used to write back and forth about all kinds of topics, and only occasionally about Port. His collection was the only thing that was small and likely that was a smart decision!

Yes, it was Warre's Nimrod for which he was famous. He had some really OLD bottles of it. It fascinated him and he searched them out. I had a handful of bottles of it from his collection, at a restaurant he frequented in Ann Arbor, MI. I have not been there since Covid. Likely, now I will have no reason to ever return, the same might just apply to MI, itself.
