Breaking News: Menin buys Bulas

Post by Al B. »

I heard today that a couple of weeks ago Menin bought the Bulas Port and wine business. Other than the fact that the two estates were neighbours, I don't know any other details.

A very wealthy Brazilian individual.

I was really surprised to hear that Bulas had been sold, but I guess that if someone with that much money really wants your vineyards and business they will eventually offer you a price you can’t ignore.

It happened with Mourão. I wonder who might be next.

For a variety of reasons, I think we will see more brands/quintas sold off in the near future.

I've never seen either producer for sale in the U.S.

I would assume they bought Bulas for the stocks. Today this is how your position your Port business, old Ports.

This was done a few weeks ago. I was supposed to go up there a few weeks ago, and next week, but was postponed to later in the month. A very dynamic company that I have been in touch with since last year, but have only had their 2022 Vintage Port, so far. More to come. We will be visiting them on my PHT2 tour this year.

Visiting Menin or Bulas?

I presume Menin, in which case I’ll be very interested to hear any news you have. I’ve been impressed with what Juan Carlos Escotet has been doing with Sogevinus since he transferred ownership out of the banking group. It’s really, really interesting to see what the handful of incredibly wealthy Port-lovers have been doing with their acquisitions in the last 10 years.
