TN: 2015 Quinta da Sequeira Grande Reserva Branco Douro white

Post by Rune EG »

10 years old white wine from Douro. Purchased from the Danish importer. One of these very heavy bottles (nearly 2 kg). 14.5 % alc. Produced with Rabigato, Gouveio, Codega do Larinho and Malvasia Fina grapes, all from 100 years old vineyard. Matured in barrels for 6 months. Decanted 20 min, which was OK, but it became more pleasant at 45 minutes. Yellow/gold colour. Fresh aroma in the beginning dominated by minerals, but then later on some spices (hint of cardamom). Full body. Powerful to be white wine, quite dry at start, but with longer decanting it was “round” and fruitier. Balance of acidity/sweetness was very good. All-in-all a rich white wine suitable for sea food. We had it to large shrimps. Would benefit with more freshness. Medium to long aftertaste. 92 pts.

Thanks. Always good to read how these older Douro whites are holding up with age.
