2023, an "also ran" vintage. In 2024, the prior year's juice was talked about as being good, but many knowledgeable Duriense and Port savvy peeps after the harvest were talking about the 2024 as the next Classic declaration. In quiet circles, that talk is getting louder now. I have no horse in this race, nor do I care what year is selected for the honor. It remains to be seen IF "classic" or "generally declared" years really matter anymore. Can you name the last one?
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Classic? 2011 for sure, and I think that history will ultimately also look at 2017 as a Classic year as well.
Generally declared? I think that's also 2017. There were a lot of declarations in 2018, but not the Symingtons so it's hard to call that a "generally declared" year. The same can be said for 2022, I think. And IMO 2015 was more deserving than either of those vintages yet wasn't generally declared.
