2007 FORTIFICATION TOUR

Post by Roy Hersh »

As mentioned below, two spots have become available as of today.

:scholar: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE EMAIL ME ASAP!

THANKS,

ROY

Keep your eyes focused here, as the trip will be announced as soon as we finalize the dates for May of 2007.

This will be limited to 10 guests, plus Mario and me. First come first served. Specific date information will be released within the week and a rough itinerary of the trip by the end of the first week of December.

Thanks to those of you who have already expressed interest by email. As you can ask any of the FTLOP Forumites who attended the trip to Portugal last month, we can assure you of having a great time. However, we won't be stomping grapes on this trip ... nonetheless, we are confident you will eat, drink and sleep well! Oh yeah, you'll probably learn quite a bit too.

Yes, I can attest the trip in October was one of the best trips I have ever had. Roy and Mario are great hosts and I highly recommend going on one of their trips.

THE DATES ARE HEREBY CARVED IN STONE:

MON. MAY 14TH - SAT. MAY 19TH 2007

We suggest departure on Saturday May, 12th, arrival on May 13th in Porto. When looking for flights, I can provide you with a Portuguese travel specialist to help with the least painful flight connections.

Departure should be planned from Lisbon Airport on Sunday May 20th, no earlier than noon, as we'll have to further discuss arrangement for flights between Porto-Madeira and at the end of the trip Madeira-Lisbon.

I think I need to point out a correction to Roy's statement that
you will eat, drink and sleep well!
You won't sleep well! There was so much to do, such a great bunch of folks to talk to and so many geat wines that there wasn't enough time to sleep.

Just ask any of the guys who took photos of me snoring on the minibus between stops!

It was brought to my attention that there's direct flights from Madeira to London and also to several other major european cities.

So, USA guests may also have the option to do Funchal (Madeira)-London-USA.

Who goes to the Douro to sleep

Get plenty of rest before you go and book a few days off work when you get back. Don't waste a minute !!! - this is a trip of a lifetime deal, no mistake. If in doubt, GO !!

This is public domain praise. Anyone who wants an independant private opinion of these trips please e-mail me at [email protected]

Likewise, if someone wants a private opinion from me please send me an email (it is on my profile).

Truth be told, I think I only took a short nap once on the bus back to the hotel, and that was sometime after 2am and a LONG day of great Ports and food. i was so excited to be there i didn't want to miss anything.

It truly is a trip of a lifetime and one not to miss :!:

Here is the link to a short recap I wrote of the October trip.

Just to add my two cents, the most recent trip to Porto and the Douro was fantastic. Not to be missed.

I spent a lot of time in the mini bus sleeping, saving my energy for the next tasting! If you have been in the service, the sleep anywhere ability they teach you will come in handy! So many ports to taste, so little time!

As of today there is one spot left before we sell out the trip. Anybody want to step up?

There is the chance of adding a 3-day Port only trip, directly after this one, in case anyone is interested, please email me.

Sadly, due to a diagnosis of a very serious illness ... a couple has been forced to bow out of the upcoming trip.

So if anybody would still like to join us there are now two spots that have opened up.

Roy,
Is this the second trip (The earlier dates)? As you may remember, I'm golfing from the 19th May for a week(Sat to Sat). If the vacencies are on the first trip, which would come to a close just as my buddies arrived to play golf, I could consider it. It'll take some smooth talking and manipulation, but it would be worth it. If its the earlier trip, never mind.

In any case, best wishes to whomever it is that will use all our positive thoughts as well as their strength of character to overcome their health issues. x

Alan,

You may be in luck. The trip I am speaking about ends at the end of the evening on the 19th officially, with Sunday the 20th the actual day of departure.

Let me know by email your intentions.

Best regards,

Roy Hersh
