CORRUPTED!!!

Post by Roy Hersh »

I don't know where to begin.

Late last night, when putting the very finishing touches on the 50+ pages of the newsletter (I had sent the first 10 already to Stewart) ... I had a glitch (too long to explain) and my document is obviously corrupted. I can not go back and find an earlier version and nothing Stewart or I have tried, has worked. I even did the most drastic thing I know which was a full system restore to go back in time 48 hours (losing 20 hours of work) and when I opened it ... even then it remains a corrupted word doc.

Recreating 40 pages of the newsletter is like swallowing a poison pill and I am trying to think of any other possibilities. So far nothing. So where as I thought you'd receive the newsletter either on Sat. or by Sun. at the latest, that is clearly not going to happen now.

Fortunately, I don't keep guns in the house.

Relax, take a deep breath, have a glass...err, bottle of Port, and I promise to leave the guns at home this weekend.

Alan,

Every time I take a deep breath, I feel that pitch fork in my solar plexus.

Andy,

As you saw in Portugal, my "tolerance" is pretty solid, but I plan to abuse it this weekend.

In that case I'm ready, as there will be no sleeping until the weekend is over and the booze is gone :winepour: :winebath: :drunk:

Wow! That is too bad. I feel so sorry for you! (Been in your situation before I have to admit). Please feel free to send me the file and I'll see if there is anything I can do.

Roy - I feel your pain. I am currently trying desperately to restore an entire server (one of the important ones that affects my bonus at the end of the year...)

Well the good news is that they WERE able to save all of the text. The bad news is that all semblance of graphics, formatting and photos are gone. It'll take me all week to put this back together. I hate when that happens. But at least I do not have to re-create all 40 pages.

At least dropping in the graphics is not as labour-intensive as writing the actual text (or at least I see it that way.) Despite that, I feel for you Roy - I didn't share in my email to you, but do recall at least one incident at work where a technical document I was working on for a client that I was consulting for got deleted after I delivered it to them. Of course, the backup that I took turned out corrupted as well... all 200+ pages of technical IT documentation were gone.

PISSED me right off!!!

I'm working overtime to get this out with Stewart's help, in the next 24 hours. Sleep is highly over rated.

Stewart,

I think we can put this down to "User Error" on the incident log

Derek

PS: Sorry, Roy, hopefully the pain has subsided and your sense of humour has returned
