Wine Tasting for 1827 Quinto do Serrado Boal

Post by ftlopftlop »

I am new to Madeira's, in fact I am new to old wines. This 1827 was the first Madeira I ever tried...and I was most impressed!

I read the article entitled "The Great Seattle Madeira Tasting"
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:NR9 ... cd=1&gl=us

I have tried to locate a place that still offers this wine for sale or tasting. When I read this article [from this year] I thought there might be some hope.

Are there any wine tastings for this wine in Florida? What was the cost for participating in "The Great Seattle Madeira Tasting"?

On a related note, I have seen this wine spelled differently. ie. "Quinta do Serrado", "Quinta de Serrado", "Quinto do Serrado". With "Boal" also spelled "Bual" or "Baul". Why are they spelled differently? Because of the cost for this wine I have a concern that if I purchase a bottle it could be fake. How do you tell if a bottle is authenticate? Even more of a challenge, how do you tell if the bottle you purchase has been kept safe from harsh conditions (ie. stored in a hot garage in summer)?

Sorry for the multiple questions in a single post. I am new to vintage Madeira's yet am very eager to learn all that I can.

Thank you.
