Out of curiosity . . .

Having never tried Madeira , I purchased a Leacock's Rainwater and to compare , I also purchased a H&H 15 yr old Verdelho . Would there be a pronounced difference ?

Dear Luc,

the Leacock's Rainwater is not bad but compared to the 15 YO H&H Verdelho it will seem watery indeed. Even though the two wines should have about the same level of sweetness, the Rainwater is rather light and without any depth, hence the name...
I remember the 15 YO Verdelho from H&H as being a very good one, multilayered, could beat some modern vintage Madeiras in depth and complexity.
But I think your approach to Madeira wine makes a lot of sense, starting with something ordinary and then working your way up. The next logical step would be a Verdelho vintage Madeira from the 20th century, Barbeitos maybe, or also H&H. You should take a look at Roy's TN's to find out what sounds best for you.
Enjoy!
Peter

No more so than say a 2006 Cru Beaujolais and a 1989 Haut Brion.

I actually had to look these two up...  How embarrasing!

It sounds like the H&H 15 Year would be a good one for me to try as well then for a good Madeira experience!

I laughed out loud when I read this one because I really have to be in the mood to enjoy peanut butter, never mind with Port or Madeira. :D

Actuallym the local selection of Madeira sucks just enough that PB with ANY of them would be a travesty! (and likely a waste of good Madeira!)

Todd , in La Belle Province you can get H & H 5 yr for $ 15.00 and work your way to Pereira d'Oliveira demi-sec Verdelho 1850 for $ 1,195 .00 !!!
Can you spare a dime .
