Best Value 1966 VP?
I would be curious what the best value VP from 66 is. In other words, what is the cheapest quality VP from 66?
Scott Gruner
Rocha and Sandeman are right up there in the QPR range of '66 VPs, IMO. I have had both in the past six months. Dow is also great and usually can be found at a decent price if you look hard enough Scott. I had it actually a week ago... tomorrow.
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
Hi Smaug, how are you, you old dragon? Had the Sandeman's with Roy a couple of weeks ago and agree that it is a distinctly nice port. My only reservation is that all the other 1966s on show were significantly better - Fonseca, Graham's and Taylor's. Trouble with them is that they are not in the cheap category.
BTW - have you ever thought about having your own forum - you could call it Smauger's Board

I'm telling you - Port is from Portugal.

value 1966s
I am a big fan of the 1966 Quinta do Noval and have had the Berry Bros bottling about four times with great pleasure. It has lots of fruit and can hold. Since it is not one of the big three (Fonseca, Graham, Taylor) the price is more reasonable.
Sadly I have no memory of the 1966 Sandeman which people seem to love. Had it in a vertical once, but it did not stand out - that is the problem with drinking only one ounce of port. In the last decade I've had 63, 70, 77, & 85 Sandeman multiple times. All are good except the 1970 which is very light (oporto bottled). Since this topic is about value 1966s I'll stop, but hope somebody opens a new topic about Sandeman - I have no friends that drink it and nobody talks about it in California.
