Recommendation for PORTO Wine Shop/Small Quinta Tasting Room

Post by Theo Z. »

My wife and I just returned from a lovely honeymoon trip in the Douro. One of our most enjoyable experiences was meeting Maria Teresa at the Association of Douro and Porto Wine Producers in Porto, at Rue Fonte Taurina no. 89. She represents small single quinta producers in the Douro who produce wines exclusively from grapes of their own vineyards. Maria Teresa generously offered us tastes of several of the wines produced by association members and sells their bottles at what seemed to be fair prices. She speaks english very well and is also a member of this forum. Several forum members have referenced her before, which is why we paid her a visit. In our opinion a trip to Porto would be incomplete without stopping by her shop and tasting room, and we look forward to seeing her again on our next trip! Her store is just a few blocks away from the Hotel Pestana.

Theo,

Congrats on the wedding and glad to hear the honeymoon was a good time.

Maria Teresa is a wonderful person and it was great to see her again recently. The prices at the shop are very good and some really good gems can be found there. I highly recommend anyone visiting Oporto stop by to see her.

It's the AVEPOD shop .... :)

Exactly, that's the AVEPOD shop.

This Association represents about 80 Port & Douro wine producers that use only the grapes of their own production for their wines (buying Grapes or Juice is NOT allowed for AVEPOD members).

It's a a really great shop to find out about good values for the money.
Personally, I do love wines from the independent producers. :)

Thank Theo.
