TN: 2000 Quinta de Roriz Vinho Tinto Reserva

Post by Jason Brandt Lewis »

2000 Quinta de Roriz Vinho Tinto Reserva (Douro Valley, Portugal): This quinta is still owned by the van Zeller family, and the wines are made in conjunction with the Symingtons. The wine is produced from a blend of 45 percent Touriga Nacional, 35 percent Touriga Franca and 20 percent Tinta Roriz, and was aged for 12 months in French barriques prior to bottling. Big, deep, dark garnet in color, almost opaque not unlike a Porto; the bouquet is dense and opulent, with dark plums, dark cocoa, vanilla, sweet cream, oak, earth, spice -- again, similar to a Ruby Porto without the sweetness; the wine is full-bodied, round on the palate and velvety smooth, with good balance and well-integrated tannins; the flavors are big and full, with loads of ripe dark fruits and moderate spice, which linger with the long, flavorful, rich finish. Outstanding!

Cheers,
Jason

Thanks for the note Jason, I have only taste the 2001 so far and it is very similar to your description.
