It had been awhile (Jan. 2007) since I first tasted the 1954 Leacock's Verdelho and I have still not written up that tasting, which I must do one of these days, as there were almost twenty bottles there.

This particular showing was also very impressive and I liked it quite a bit. My TN along with quite a few bottles that I have been fortunate to partake in this month, will be in the next newsletter in the section: Roy's Recent Tasting Notes.

Richard opened this bottle on Sunday while we sat around and watched NFL games and it was finished late last night. Really enjoyable and especially when I heard the price he stole it for.

It is maybe interesting to know more about the origin of that wine.

I bought it some years back at MWC lodge in Funchal. A bit later I found in their vintage tasting room, just on the right after entering through the door, plenty of CVM 1954 Verdelho in the cabinet. I checked my IVM number and it was in the same series.

Then I tried to buy one CVM ( at Leacocks price ). They denied me. Of course they had not repainted the bottle. For years they have been there. Saw them Oct 2006 too.

That does not mean they later will repaint it into Leacocks. MWC often repaint and I have seen bottles of the same wine both as Cossart Gordon and Blandy's.

Maybe when the Leacock runs dry, it will be Blandy's 1954 Verdelho
