2000 Fonseca VP ON SALE ... HURRY!!!

I am shocked that no one has written here before about the 2000 Fonseca VP stacks, that were warehoused at winecommune.com for $42.95. There are about 6 cases left. I took it for granted, but then again, it seems like there are more European folks contributing here than No. Americans.

Great going. About 70 cases have sold through since Saturday. They supposedly ran out of stock Monday a.m.

By this afternoon, they were back in business with a bunch more, but they raised the price by $10. This is now about the same price I paid for the wine upon the release of the pricing on the first day of first tranch in the UK (before it ever hit the US). Amazing!

For anybody who is still wanting to buy 'em, at $53 it is a screaming deal. They were going for $90 about one year ago.

That price seems very good compared to what I have seen elsewhere. Has anyone here received and drunk any of them from wine commune?

The price is silly. I know folks who have already rec'd their bottles and they are from the US importer Kobrand. No TNs are posted anywhere from this lot as of yet. Too late, they have all been sold out as of this a.m. and that was at a higher price for the next batch they had received.

I didn't win that auction on winecommune, but I see that another site has it for $52. If it is OK to mention the name here, it is wineroom.com. I don't have any vested interest in that company. I just ordered some 00 Fonseca from them and hope it turns out well, in 20 to 30 years when I drink it! Thinking about those time frames, one should get only the already aged vintage ports.

Finally got around to picking up my Fonseca at Wine Commune yesterday. There might have been some earlier questions about the wines. All I can say is that the bottles are in perfect condition, fills are good (all exactly the same, about 3/4" into the neck), label is standard "traditional" Fonseca. What a buy, this had to be near or under original first tranche wholesale. Anyone had the guts to try one?

I've seen several Fonseca '00 and '03 bottles around where some have just the Fonseca label, and some that have Fonseca Guimarens in the background artwork with Fonseca in white on the front.

Is there a difference to these? I have up to this point thought that the one with the Fonseca Guimarens logo behind the white Fonseca was the Guimarens brand, and the plain Fonseca label was the "real" Fonseca.

From your comment it sounds like the "real" Fonseca uses both labels?

It's just confused me recently because I've seen bottles advertised in shops as "Fonseca 2000 Vintage" for like $100 but it has the Guimarens label I describe above. Just wondering if it's me that is confused, or if the shop owners are confused.
