December VT, any suggestions?

Post by Frederick Blais »

Guys, anything you'd like to taste or discover for the december VT?

Douro Wines?

SQVP?

2nd Label from Syminton's, QH, GC, SW....

Just some ideas. Lets discuss it.

You may be on to something here....and we've never done it before. A DOURO WINE Virtual tasting.

I'm all for "Any Douro Wine" for our VT in December.

if I'm off my rocker and you want to stick with Port, please just say so

Andy, you're off your rocker... :D

Personally, I think the Douro wine is a great idea, but I'd love to see it be shuffled to January and leave December for a really awesome SQ or 2nd label VP. I'd guess that more folks would be wanting to open a special bottle of VP of some type for December/holiday time. (Just a guess based upon my own plans!)

My two cents... ;)

OK, OK, I'm back on the rocker now :wall:

Lets save the Douro wine until January??

How about doing "second labels", such as

Quarles Harris
Gilberts
Gould Campbell
Quinta do Noval Silval
Niepoort Secundum
Fonseca Guimareans
etc

Only a couple more hours to finalize....Since only a couple of us voiced our opinions...I guess its "Second Label" Vintage Ports.

By "Second Label" we should define that as any second label by a producer, such as:

Quinta do Noval Silval
Niepoort Secundum
Fonseca Guimareans
Sandeman Vau Vintage

Should we also inlcude "Lesser producers" Such as
Gilberts
Offley
Osbourne
etc???

Cool, I can knock off two things at once.....taste my first Silval, and my first really young VP (I have some 2003.)

Should be fun!

Now don't I wish I would have picked up a couple of bottles of that 2003 Silval at $50 a bottle before it all sold out???

Or that I could GET Niepoort Secundum up here...

I'm going hunting this weekend! :D

Making the list of lesser producers could take some time and be from personnal preference.

So lets stick to 2nd label and lesser label from Symington/Taylor and other groups.

So

Quarles Harris(Symington)
Gilberts(Burmester)
Gould Campbell(Symington)
Quinta do Noval Silval(Noval)
Niepoort Secundum(Niepoort)
Fonseca Guimareans (Fonseca)
Sandeman Vau Vintage (Sandeman)
Romariz(Taylor)
Smith Woodhouse(Symington)

They are probably others, this is the one I think of at the moment.

Just found this forum. I am certainly in for Douro next month as I have some great TNs from a thread we did on Garrs Forum last month. Plus have some others in the cellar ready to go. Todd knows the selection in downtown Edmonton!!
Seasons Greetings.
