Broadbent Vintage Port

Post by Garrick M. »

I have searched the forums and I have not found any tasting notes, other than Roy's, in the TN forum. Nor have I found any discussion of this house here.

I was just wondering if people have any impressions of the 2000 VP and the 2003?

I've never tried any of the Broadbent ports - I'd like to because I enjoy their madeiras, but I've never come across any of the ports.

I've seen some low end Broadbent port, but if there were something any kind of age indication I would go for. I too enjoy his Madeiras and find them to be a good value.

Bartholomew Broadbent (son of Michael) is a wine importer to the US - I think he is based on the west coast.

From memory, I think the Broadbent ports are Niepoort wines.

Tom is correct. Bartholomew Broadbent lives in San Francisco and owns an import and distribution company of Port & Madeira under the Broadbent label, (Niepoort produces the Port and Justino's the Madeira), as well as many quality family-owned table wines from a broad swath of appellations. Broadbent is the exclusive importer in the USA for Quinta do Crasto Ports and DOC wines, as well as Ferreira.

Like his Madeira, the Broadbent Ports run the gamut in terms of the categories that are coverered. They are available throughout the United States and should not be that hard to find in most areas within this country. Outside of North America, (they are also quite popular in Canada) they have not reached many foreign markets as of yet. The Madeiras have just made their way to Europe in 2007, so hopefully the Ports won't be far behind.

Justino's and Broadbent are the two most popular entry level Madeiras in the MA area market. For sure, almost every decent B&M has one of those two brands if they have any Madeira.

FYI ... in case anyone wants to find the Broadbent lineup of Madeiras (I strongly recommend the 10 year old Malmsey by the case as it is a GREAT value for money and delicious too!) in the UK, they are carried by Berry Bros. & Rudd. If you are going to choose only one place to be, I think they chose wisely.
