Madeira Tasting in NYC

Post by Marco D. »

I noticed that PJ Wine in NYC is doing an in-store Madeira tasting. Looks like they will be "pouring samples of the Rare Wine Company's Historic Series along with some surprises".

Might be worthwhile to check out for those in the area...

Hey Daniel,

Lots of interesting lots in that auction. Were you successful in any of the bids?

hi marco! sorry for my lack of reply, but i had been away on vacation and then travelling. only got back a week ago, and this is my first time checking to board.

Yeah, i picked up a few items at the auction....but very few since i did not at all think there was much that went "on the cheap". I did, however, get to taste quite a few excellent examples from this auction at the tasting prior that chrities held, and i plan to post TN's shortly once i get a chance to catch up on things given my return.

ill touch base with you shortly, as id love to try and organize something soon so that we can drink together....madeira or otherwise.

did you buy anything?

Daniel... congratulations. I bid on 4, hoped for 1, got 0. Maybe these kinds of bottles will come round again (doubtful, and certainly only for 3x the price by the time they do, not that they were bargains to begin with, though obviously relatively speaking yes they were and anyone is lucky to have them).

Heather et al.,

I bid on 5 Lots in that auction (three seriously) and was lucky enough to get one. I actually just received the UPS shipment today, thus my post here now. I was lucky enough to snag the three bottle lot of 1808 Malmseys :)

The prices were a bit steep for me. With a recession possibly looming, hopefully we can see a decrease in some of these auction prices... doubtful, but one can hope. :)

Scott: Precisely one of the ones I hoped to get, and to make a gift of one of the three....... well I do look forward to your sharing with us your TN on these.

Did anyone actually attend the NY tasting at the top of this thread? (not the same as the Christie's tasting is my guess)

Daniel,

Do you want to write up your entire experience for a newsletter Guest Article? You could include pics of the bottles! Seriously, I'd very much welcome that.
