Holy smoke! (Krohn 10 YOT)

Post by Morten O »

I opened up a bottle of Krohn 10 year old tawny and was very surprised by it's smoked taste and smell (although more nutty in the nose). I'm not really fond of the smoke and would like to know if my Krohn 20 year old tawny or my Krohn Colheita 1976 are as smoked as the 10 year old. Any experience with these? I can't find much about Krohn's tawnys when searching the forum.

Are there other tawnys known for their smoke (so to know what to avoid :))?

Otto recently posted his TN on the 76 Krohn here:

He mentions a rancio flavor in his note (that peculiar earthen cheesey, mushroomy flavor profile)

On New years I drank the '77 Krohn Colheita (party--no TN) and found it rather enjoyable and I don't recall any smoke present in that one. I haven't had the Krohn 10 or 20 in quite a few years now, but in my vague recollection of them, smokiness doesn't come to mind.
