30 Year Old Tawny Port by S. Leonardo -- (Quinta do Mourão)
Golden ruby brown with slight yellow hints on the edge. Great butterscotch, nuts, carmel, wood, and spices. Great complexity and a long finish that fills the mouth. A top notch 30 year old tawny. This is mostly made up from one barrel from 1972. 94+ points.
Andy Velebil Good wine is a good familiar creature if it be well used. William Shakespeare http://www.fortheloveofport.com
Hi again Andy,
It looks like we like a lot this "small" producers' tawnies. It seems that only you and me write or aparently know about him... what great tawnies he has!!! Good for us!!! :)
I wrote a TN about the 30Y in October 2007 (Bottled in 2006, this 30 Years Old Tawny has golden orange colour with notes of honey, dry fruits (nuts, almonds), dark chocolate and smoke. Full body but elegant, soft with equilibrium between the sweetness and the acidity typical of the Ports with this age. Long and persistent finish. 98pts.) and gave 4 more points than you... could it be because I haven't tried the 40Y. If so I have to adjust my classification...
I still have the 40Y to open and after reading you TN and looking forward for pumping out the cork.
